Davie County High School Mourns Loss of Teacher

October 22, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Davie County High School Mourns Loss of Teacher

Davie High School lost a dedicated teacher, mentor, colleague and friend on Tuesday, October 21.  Mrs. Lynn Tutterow was a 1975 graduate of Davie High.  She began her 22 year teaching career in Montgomery County before returning to Davie County Schools in 1992.

Mrs. Tutterow was a thoughtful, creative, reflective and highly professional Social Studies teacher.  She constantly sought professional improvement wanting to bring innovative strategies to her students.  She was a pioneer for the STEM initiative. She was chosen to be a part of the Governor’s Teaching Network and was selected as one of two teachers in NC as the recipient of the James Madison Scholarship.

Mrs. Tutterow was an advocate for causes such as domestic violence, Holocaust and other global issues.  Her efforts and dedication assisted with raising over $13,000 for the Change the World Fund through the STAND club, which she sponsored.

Students and staff are deeply saddened by this loss. Administrators met with staff and then shared with the student body. Grief counselors and ministers will be available for staff and students throughout the day. Arrangements will be communicated at a later time.

Mrs. Tutterow will be missed by her students, colleagues, friends and family.  Lynn was a wife and mother of two children. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the families of others involved in the accident.
